Winnipeg Horror Con 2026 – Costume Contest Rules
Event Date: September 19, 2026
Location: Viscount Gort Hotel, 1670 Portage Ave Winnipeg, MB
Contest Check-In: at the Costume Contest Registration Booth
Showtime: First contest :14 and under 2:00 pm Stage area in the Royal room second floor
Showtime: Second contest 15 and over 7:00pm Stage area in the Royal room second floor
Eligibility
All registered attendees of Winnipeg Horror Con 2026 are eligible to enter.
Entrants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Costumes can be handmade, modified, or purchased, but originality and creativity will weigh heavily in judging.
Registration
Pre-registration is encouraged to guarantee a spot; on-site sign-ups will be accepted until all spaces are filled.
Each participant must complete a Costume Entry Form including name, character, source (film, TV, game, original design, etc.), and contact info.
Groups (2 or more participants) may enter together as a single entry.
Costume & Prop Guidelines
Costumes for the 14 and under must be family-friendly up to a PG-13 level—no nudity, excessive gore, or offensive imagery.
No functional weapons of any kind. Props must be peace-bonded and inspected at check-in.
Pyrotechnics, open flames, or liquids that could create a mess or hazard are prohibited.
Respect others’ personal space—no physical contact or surprise interactions with the audience or judges.
Judging Criteria
Participants will be evaluated on the following:
Craftsmanship: Skill, detail, and quality of construction.
Accuracy or Creativity: Faithfulness to the source material or imaginative originality.
Presentation: Stage presence, confidence, and how the costume is brought to life.
Overall Impact: Wow factor, audience reaction, and performance (if applicable).
Awards
Awards will be presented in several categories, such as:
Best in Show
Best Horror Character
Best Group or Duo
Best Makeup & Special Effects
Judge’s Choice / Scariest Costume
(Exact categories subject to change based on entries.)
Winners will receive certificates, trophies, or sponsor-donated prizes, and may be featured on event media and social channels.
Conduct
All contestants must adhere to Winnipeg Horror Con’s Code of Conduct.
Unsportsmanlike behavior, harassment, or rule violations may result in disqualification or removal from the event.
The judges’ decisions are final.
Image & Media Release
By participating, entrants consent to photography, video, and social media use of their appearance for event promotion and documentation.
